Senior Software Engineer – Ledger

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and maintain systems and services that serve as the foundation of Alpaca’s brokerage infrastructure.

• Develop and uphold the modern ledger system, which acts as the definitive source for account activities and transactional data.

• Work collaboratively with finance, operations, and product teams to deliver impactful features and projects.

• Create backend systems and components with a focus on integrity, maintainability, scalability, and stability.

• Take ownership of the delivery of high-visibility features and projects from the design phase through to deployment.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance the overall health of Alpaca’s systems.

• Independently design and implement solutions while assisting in defining objectives with a cross-functional team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A seasoned engineer with over 5 years of experience working on large-scale systems.

• Strong programming skills, ideally in Go.

• Familiarity with IDLs (e.g., protobuf), RPC frameworks (e.g., gRPC), cloud platforms (e.g., GCP), and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).

• Proficient in debugging issues or anticipating problems to avert them entirely.

• Experience in architecting and building systems at scale.

• Ability to establish alignment with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Background in the financial services or accounting sector (preferred).

• Knowledge of distributed systems and databases (preferred).

• Familiarity with event-driven systems and messaging brokers (e.g., Redpanda) (preferred).

• Experience working remotely (preferred).

• Background in a startup environment (preferred).
