Senior Software Engineer – Layer1, C++

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Engage in software development for managing the physical Layer1 of networking products.

• Create control software for connectivity that spans from 1GBASE-T connectors to 1.6T long-reach optics.

• Develop software across forwarding engines, connectors, and interface chips/gearboxes.

• Construct instrumentation and telemetry tools for monitoring and diagnosing the health of physical links.

• Collaborate with the Optics teams to establish standards for new media and facilitate their market introduction.

• Interface with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to design Layer1 features.

• Architect, design, and oversee feature development.

• Create and maintain features utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Review and contribute to both functional and design specifications.

• Develop automated tests and testing infrastructure.

• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to launch Layer1 components in the market.

• Design software control interfaces for Layer1 components in partnership with hardware engineers.

• Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.

• Analyze and resolve customer network and system test issues.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in one of these fields with 6 years of experience, or a Ph.D. in one of these fields with 3 years of experience, or equivalent professional experience.

• Proficient in C or C++ and Python.

• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux.

• Knowledge of digital communication technologies, including modulation and signal encoding schemes, is an advantage.

• Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is beneficial.

• Experience with low-level hardware components is a plus.

• Practical understanding of software engineering principles.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and software troubleshooting skills.

• Capability to design solutions and implement features independently.

• Ability to work effectively within small teams.
