Senior Software Engineer – Layer1, C++

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Develop software that manages the physical layer of networking systems.

• Create control software for connectors, optics, forwarding engines, and interface chips.

• Construct instrumentation and telemetry tools to monitor and troubleshoot the health of physical links.

• Collaborate with Optics teams to establish standards for new media and facilitate their market introduction.

• Engage with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to develop Layer1 features.

• Architect, design, and oversee feature development.

• Develop and maintain features utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Review and contribute to functional and design specifications.

• Create automated tests and develop testing infrastructure.

• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to launch Layer1 components in the market.

• Design software control interfaces for Layer1 components in partnership with hardware engineers.

• Provide technical leadership across various features, projects, and tools.

• Analyze, address, and resolve issues in customer networks alongside Customer Support Engineers and clients.

• Investigate system test issues and implement solutions.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.

• Manage projects from definition through to deployment and customer interaction.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in one of these fields plus 6 years of experience; or a Ph.D. in one of these fields plus 3 years of experience; or equivalent work experience.

• Expertise in C or C++ and Python.

• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux.

• Practical understanding of software engineering principles.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and software troubleshooting skills.

• Capability to design solutions and implement features independently.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in small teams.

• Knowledge of digital communication technologies such as modulation and signal encoding schemes is a plus.

• Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus.

• Experience with low-level hardware components is an advantage.
