This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.
β’ Create software that manages the physical Layer1 of networking systems.
β’ Develop control software for connectivity components, ranging from 1GBASE-T connectors to 1.6T long-reach optics.
β’ Engineer software for forwarding engines, connectors, and interface chips/gearboxes.
β’ Construct instrumentation and telemetry tools for monitoring and troubleshooting the health of physical links.
β’ Collaborate with Optics teams to establish standards for new media and facilitate their market introduction.
β’ Implement new features, troubleshoot issues, and enhance code for improved scalability and performance.
β’ Take ownership of projects from conceptualization to deployment and customer engagement.
β’ Engage with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to define Layer1 functionalities.
β’ Architect, design, and oversee the development of features.
β’ Create and sustain features using C, C++, and Python.
β’ Review and contribute to functional and design specifications.
β’ Develop automated tests and testing infrastructure.
β’ Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to introduce new Layer1 components to the market.
β’ Design software control interfaces for Layer1 components in partnership with hardware engineers.
β’ Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
β’ Analyze and resolve network issues alongside Customer Support Engineers and clients.
β’ Investigate System Test Engineer problems and provide solutions.
β’ Mentor new and junior engineers.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree in one of these fields plus 6 years of experience, or a Ph.D. in one of these fields plus 3 years of experience, or equivalent work experience.
β’ Proficient in C or C++ and Python.
β’ Familiarity with UNIX or Linux environments.
β’ Practical understanding of software engineering principles.
β’ Strong analytical and software troubleshooting abilities.
β’ Capability to independently design solutions and implement features.
β’ Ability to function effectively within small teams.
β’ Knowledge of digital communication technologies, such as modulation and signal encoding schemes, is advantageous.
β’ Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus.
β’ Experience with low-level hardware components is a plus.
β’ Availability for remote work.
