Senior Software Engineer – DevX

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Maintain and enhance the foundational platforms, tools, guardrails, and team processes to ensure safe, measurable, and sustainable development of autonomous agents.

• Establish safe task categories for autonomous agents along with necessary human review boundaries.

• Design isolated execution environments that safeguard secrets and sensitive systems.

• Develop workflows for agents to handle selected Linear issues, conduct tests, and generate draft pull requests.

• Create and update repository guidelines, agent playbooks, ownership metadata, coding standards, and documentation.

• Enhance developer workflows, repository organization, testability, and documentation based on agent performance and feedback from reviewers.

• Define boundaries, dependencies, and context requirements in collaboration with Architecture and senior engineers.

• Integrate agentic workflows with Linear, GitHub, CI, testing infrastructure, and developer review processes.

• Design templates for pull-request evidence that include changes, tests, risks, and necessary human judgment.

• Establish guardrails for authentication, billing, permissions, and data management in coordination with Security, AI/Agents, Developer Platform, and product engineering teams.

• Create benchmarks from historical engineering tasks to assess agent output, failure modes, test pass rates, review workload, and production risk.

• Define quality and adoption metrics, such as the usefulness of draft PRs, reviewer acceptance rates, CI pass rates, rework frequency, and developer satisfaction.

• Utilize pilot-team data and feedback to refine workflows, minimize unsafe attempts, and foster engineering trust.

• Assist n8n in becoming an AI-native engineering organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience with autonomous coding agents, AI coding platforms, agent orchestration systems, or internal AI developer tools.

• Hands-on experience in building, deploying, or managing AI-assisted or agentic software development workflows utilized by developers.

• Solid software engineering background, preferably in platform engineering, developer experience, infrastructure, tooling, CI/CD, or engineering productivity.

• Comfortable leading a pioneering technical initiative from problem identification through pilot, adoption, evaluation, and iteration.

• Comprehensive understanding of GitHub, CI, testing methodologies, code review, monorepos, issue tracking, developer environments, and release risks.

• Strong judgment regarding permissions, secrets, sandboxing, sensitive code paths, and human-in-the-loop reviews.

• Capability to design benchmarks, quality signals, failure-mode tracking, and adoption metrics.

• Excellent written communication skills for repository instructions, playbooks, PR evidence templates, technical proposals, and alignment documents.

• Credibility with senior engineers and the ability to influence across Platform, Product Engineering, AI, Security, and Architecture without formal authority.

• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, or JavaScript monorepos is a plus.

• Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Linear, automated testing infrastructure, preview environments, or internal developer platforms is advantageous.

• Experience with sandboxing, secrets management, least-privilege access, or sensitive code ownership is beneficial.

• Experience in creating AI evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, or quality metrics is a plus.

• Participation in open-source or source-available projects is desirable.

• Experience in B2B SaaS is a plus.

• Familiarity with workflow automation, integration platforms, AI orchestration, or developer-facing products is advantageous.

• For applicants outside Germany, a valid right to work is required.
