Senior Software Engineer – Data, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of backend and data services from inception through to production operations.

• Design, construct, and manage scalable data pipelines and streaming ingestion for high-volume security telemetry.

• Ensure the reliability, low latency, and cost-effectiveness of data systems.

• Participate in data modeling and make architectural decisions regarding warehouse and lakehouse structures.

• Deliver projects utilizing TypeScript/Node.js, Python, and Go services deployed on Kubernetes.

• Optimize systems for enhanced performance, scalability, and resilience.

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and provide mentorship to fellow engineers.

• Clearly communicate technical solutions and progress updates to leadership.

• Identify, assess, and implement AI-driven tools and methodologies for development, testing, delivery, and observability.

• Support Blackpoint Cyber’s mission in cybersecurity by aiding in the prevention of cyber-attacks and safeguarding customers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend and data engineering.

• Proficient programming skills in at least two of the following: TypeScript/Node.js, Python, and Go.

• Proven experience in building and maintaining microservices architectures on Kubernetes.

• Practical experience with production ETL/ELT processes and streaming data pipelines.

• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.

• Experience in stream processing frameworks like Kafka Streams, Flink, or Spark.

• Knowledge of data warehouse/lakehouse technologies, including Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or S3 with Parquet/Iceberg.

• Skills in analytical data modeling for extensive datasets.

• Expertise in database management, schema design, performance tuning, and indexing for large-scale distributed databases.

• Experience with message-driven and event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar systems.

• Proficiency in designing and consuming REST, GraphQL, or gRPC APIs.

• Experience in pipeline testing, monitoring, alerting, and lineage tracking.

• Hands-on experience with Prometheus and Grafana.

• Familiarity with AWS cloud-native technologies such as Lambda, S3, EKS/ECS, Kinesis, and SQS.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins or GitLab.

• Understanding of security best practices, handling sensitive data, and OAuth/JWT authentication and authorization.

• Background in a fast-paced startup environment and Agile development methodologies.

• Experience in leading sprint planning, breaking down initiatives, and aligning team objectives with business goals.

• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools while ensuring code quality, security reviews, and architectural integrity.

• Nice to have: experience with security data at scale, Elasticsearch, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and LLM-based capabilities in production SaaS products.
