Senior Software Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage data pipelines that handle terabytes of transactional data on a daily basis utilizing Airflow/Composer and BigQuery.

• Take ownership of complete data models and transformations that drive merchant analytics, operational reporting, and machine learning features.

• Construct and sustain embedded analytics infrastructure — the data products that our merchants engage with directly.

• Advance our data platform on GCP, incorporating BigQuery, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, and CDC datastreams.

• Enhance data quality and reliability through testing, observability, alerting, and validation frameworks.

• Manage data lineage, metadata, and documentation, while assisting in preparing our data layer for agentic and LLM-enabled use cases with semantic clarity and standardized metric definitions.

• Collaborate across functions with product, ML, and GTM teams, and contribute to the technical direction through design documentation and architectural decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess 5–8 years of experience in building and operating production data systems.

• Exhibit strong SQL capabilities and proficiency in Python, with adaptability to learn other programming languages as necessary. Comfortable with building and maintaining APIs.

• Have experience working with modern data stacks on cloud platforms (GCP preferred, but AWS or Azure are also suitable), including cloud data warehouses like BigQuery, ELT patterns, and orchestration with Airflow.

• Have a deep understanding of data modeling — including dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, and incremental processing.

• Prioritize data quality, lineage, and observability as essential engineering considerations.

• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and feel at ease working in cross-functional teams.

• Regularly utilize AI and agentic coding tools as an integral part of your workflow for planning, code generation, debugging, and code review.
