Senior Software Engineer, Core Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and design innovative solutions for scaling Reddit.

• Develop platform API projects that extend throughout the organization.

• Provide mentoring and guidance to junior engineers within the team.

• Construct, deliver, and maintain services capable of handling millions of transactions per second with over 99.999% availability.

• Enhance Reddit’s media experience for hundreds of millions of global users.

• Design, create, and manage essential foundational services, platforms, and libraries for Reddit engineering teams.

• Build, operate, and scale the media platform that powers Reddit.

• Assist in developing the engineering roadmap while ensuring high uptime and optimal performance.

• Act as a technical coach and mentor.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Go, or similar.

• Over 5 years of experience in large-scale, mission-critical distributed systems.

• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote setting.

• Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, Thrift, Protobuf, and the design and implementation of maintainable APIs.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).

• Proven track record of writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

• Expertise in media delivery from back-end systems to end-users.

• Experience in optimizing media performance, scalability, and delivery across various stages of the stack.

• Familiarity with media processing and global media distribution.

• Proficient in image scaling, cropping, progressive JPEG, WebP, HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, MP4, streaming protocols, video compression standards (H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, AV1), and CDN distribution.
