Senior Software Engineer, Computation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain the backend systems and computational engines that support Aurora’s solar and electrical design workflows.

• Enhance simulation and optimization processes for PV and battery storage system layouts, component selections, and electrical configurations.

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, research engineers, and fellow engineers to transform physical models and engineering constraints into reliable, scalable software solutions.

• Define the architecture of simulation and computation infrastructure to ensure correctness, speed, and maintainability.

• Produce clean, well-tested code and establish engineering best practices.

• Mentor colleagues and engage in technical discussions, code reviews, and design documentation.

• Take ownership of services from start to finish, including participating in on-call rotations.

• Drive technical features from initial discovery through to general release.

• Suggest mathematical strategies for complex challenges and further the work in simulation and optimization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience with a solid backend foundation.

• Academic credentials or equivalent expertise in computational mathematics, optimization, linear algebra, control theory, or numerical algorithms.

• Practical experience in simulation or optimization.

• Proven experience in designing and developing APIs, microservices, or data pipelines at scale.

• Strong algorithmic reasoning skills, with the ability to assess performance, correctness, and edge cases in computational systems.

• Proficient in one or more backend programming languages; Aurora’s technology stack includes C++, Python, and Ruby.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Advanced degree in computer science, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline (preferred).

• Understanding of solar PV and battery technology, or broader electrical engineering concepts (preferred).

• Experience with cloud-native compute infrastructure and batch or distributed processing systems (preferred).

• Must be eligible to work in the United States.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
