Senior Software Engineer – C++, Linux Kernel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.

📋 Description

• Monitor current developments in the Linux Kernel and pinpoint relevant features for Arista products and internal initiatives.

• Design and sustain EOS Kernel features and testing frameworks utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Review and contribute to functional and design specifications.

• Create automated tests and establish test infrastructure.

• Collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to validate CPUs, NICs, and other hardware components that depend on the kernel.

• Contribute enhancements to the mainline Linux kernel.

• Integrate new versions of the Linux Kernel for EOS and internal development.

• Provide technical guidance across features, projects, and tools.

• Analyze, address, and resolve customer network issues alongside Customer Support Engineers and clients.

• Investigate system test challenges and implement solutions.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.

• Oversee projects from their inception through to deployment and customer engagement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant postgraduate work experience.

• Proficient knowledge and extensive experience in C programming.

• Familiarity with C++ and Python is advantageous.

• Considerable hands-on experience in troubleshooting issues, fixing bugs, and developing features within the Linux kernel.

• Understanding of Linux kernel architecture, design, and implementation.

• Knowledge of the upstream Linux community’s patching processes and procedures.

• Comprehension of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.

• Practical understanding of modern software engineering principles and practices.

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

• Excellent software design and implementation capabilities.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as within small teams.

• Capable of articulately communicating and clearly documenting designs and implementations.

• Knowledge of x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
