Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Product Management and stakeholders to assess and prioritize AI opportunities that meet customer and organizational requirements.

• Offer technical insights on feasibility, risk, and the appropriateness of AI as a solution.

• Oversee the technical design, prototyping, implementation, deployment, and operation of secure, reliable, and scalable AI-enabled products and internal tools.

• Convert responsible AI principles and policies into system requirements and engineering practices.

• Implement suitable evaluation, data protection, risk mitigation, monitoring, and human oversight measures.

• Develop reusable architectures, implementation patterns, tools, and documentation for sustainable AI-enabled systems.

• Advise on selections among models, platforms, vendors, and the decision to build versus buy.

• Establish success metrics and leverage production data, evaluations, and stakeholder feedback to enhance AI-enabled systems.

• Share practical patterns, lessons learned, and guidance on AI-assisted development tools with engineering colleagues.

• Promote AI literacy throughout Teachstone by mentoring others and assisting cross-functional partners in understanding AI capabilities and limitations.

• Steer teams towards approved and preferred AI services.

• Identify risks, manage ambiguity, and balance experimentation and speed with reliability and long-term sustainability.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a professional software engineer.

• Senior-level expertise in software engineering, including designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining secure, reliable production systems.

• Strong judgment regarding privacy, scalability, data flow, observability, and operational costs.

• Practical experience in transitioning applied-AI capabilities from experimentation to production.

• Familiarity with model integration, prompt and context design, evaluation, monitoring, safeguards, and integration with broader software platforms.

• Experience in evaluating and integrating AI models or services.

• Ability to articulate technical decisions in terms of value to customers and staff, quality, cost, risk, performance, and maintainability.

• Advanced proficiency in at least one modern programming language.

• Capability to learn and work effectively across different languages, codebases, and technology stacks.

• Experience in building and maintaining production web applications using contemporary frontend and server-side frameworks and libraries.

• Proficient in using AI-assisted development tools in an effective and responsible manner.

• Preferred: experience with React, TanStack Start, Ruby on Rails, and Spring MVC.

• Preferred: experience working with both dynamically and statically typed programming languages.

• Preferred: experience in evaluating or integrating various commercial or open-source AI models, platforms, or service providers.

• Preferred: experience in establishing reusable engineering patterns, evaluation practices, or observability for AI-enabled systems.

• Preferred: experience in sharing AI-assisted development practices or assisting peers in adopting new engineering tools and workflows.
