This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Lead the design, development, and field implementation of applications and plugins that incorporate Ditto's data synchronization capabilities into tools for warfighter situational awareness.
• Architect and create efficient Android applications and services tailored for tactical end-user devices operating in disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth scenarios.
• Establish data contracts, define API boundaries, and create synchronization patterns to ensure interoperability with the TAK ecosystem and third-party systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot intricate application, integration, and data-flow challenges on end-user devices in active operational settings.
• Develop tools and methodologies for addressing operational issues.
• Guide engineers, evaluate designs and code, and enhance team proficiency in Android, ATAK/TAK, and integration architecture.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to outline the edge integration roadmap.
• Convert insights gained from field usage into technical recommendations, architectural guidance, and product specifications.
• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.
• Proven experience in building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade applications at scale.
• Full-stack proficiency and significant expertise in at least one technical domain.
• More than 4 years of mobile application development experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the Android SDK, Kotlin, and/or Java.
• Strong skills in integration design, including API contracts, data synchronization patterns, and loosely coupled systems.
• Proven technical leadership in architectural choices, technical direction, trade-offs, and effective communication of rationale.
• A history of mentoring engineers through code reviews, design advice, or direct coaching.
• Ability to adapt and solve problems in unclear, fast-paced operational environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with CRDT or local-first architecture.
• Cross-platform mobile development experience, including Android and platforms such as iOS, Windows, or Linux.
• Familiarity with the ATAK/TAK ecosystem, including ATAK plugin development, CoT messaging, TAK Server integration, and plugin architecture.
• Understanding of tactical networking principles, including constrained, mesh, or MANET radio networks.
• Experience with embedded databases and offline-first persistence technologies, such as SQLite, Realm, or similar.
• Experience in tactical edge deployment.
• Background with SOCOM, Department of Defense, or federal customer engagements.
• Experience as a technical lead in small teams or complex cross-functional projects.
• Backend or systems development experience with Go, Rust, or Python.
