This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the application architecture for secure agent execution, from the tool invocation to Alpaca’s trading systems.
• Create and implement account-level policies and safeguards for external agent activities.
• Be responsible for services that assess rules leading into trading systems.
• Collaborate with engineers to define trading actions initiated by agents, ensuring alignment with tools and skills.
• Ensure Alpaca’s execution model remains up-to-date with the MCP protocol, including connector, plugin, and skill standards.
• Convert changes in protocols and standards into account policies, safeguards, and trading actions.
• Work in partnership with Product, Compliance, Risk, and the identity platform to establish and deliver the control model.
• Take charge of production reliability for policy and safeguard services.
• Evaluate designs across teams and provide guidance on technical decisions where agent actions interface with brokerage systems.
• Mentor engineers to enhance design and implementation quality.
• Deliver the initial version hands-on; this role does not involve direct people management.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with a focus on building and maintaining production backend systems. Demonstrated scope and ownership are more important than strict tenure.
• Experience in delivering autonomous execution: software that performs actions under a defined policy without human approval for each action, and that can reject or halt actions outside that policy.
• Designed and implemented account-level policies within an application: enduring rules governing what a caller is permitted to do, enforced on the action path, with an audit trail of decisions made.
• Familiarity with MCP architecture to navigate both stateless and stateful behaviors, and experience with building to MCP, connector, plugin, or skill standards as they have evolved in production.
• Capability to collaborate with Product, Compliance, and Risk teams to specify which account rules permit unattended actions.
• Proficient in Python or TypeScript, with a willingness to primarily work in Go.
• Strong architectural judgment, with a history of delivering projects while requirements are still being finalized.
• Excellent communication skills with engineers, product teams, compliance, and risk partners.
• Competitive Salary & Stock Options
• Health Benefits
• New Hire Home-Office Setup: One-time USD $500
• Monthly Stipend: USD $150 per month via a Brex Card
