Senior Software Engineer, Add-Ons

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Implement significant features and architectural enhancements across the Add-ons stack, including automated moderation processes, Reviewer tools, and DevHub.

• Set and uphold engineering standards for code review, definition of completion, production readiness, runbooks, incident response, on-call practices, coding conventions, and infrastructure as code.

• Develop strong observability systems and data-driven insights.

• Offer peer feedback, exchange knowledge, and assist in the growth of others.

• Construct and refine systems that facilitate safe development, deployment, monitoring, and operation of production services.

• Enhance CI/CD pipelines by utilizing declarative, pipeline-as-code methodologies.

• Deliver work iteratively through visible backlogs, short feedback loops, retrospectives, and stakeholder demonstrations.

• Produce technical documentation including design notes, Architecture Decision Records, runbooks, and incident reports.

• Trace requests and asynchronous tasks through unfamiliar codebases to comprehend failures and identify areas for improvement.

• Collaborate with designers, product managers, QA, and community contributors.

• Engage through pull requests, code reviews, and discussions.

• Develop submission processes, trust and safety signals, and modernized DevHub and Reviewer tools.

• Work with Python/Django, MySQL, React/TypeScript, and asynchronous processing systems.

• Create internal developer platforms and paved paths for secure, consistent software delivery.

• Contribute to team ceremonies and enhance processes.

• Assist with deployments, monitoring, and incident response.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience in building and maintaining production applications using Python/Django.

• Experience in operating and enhancing production software systems where reliability and safe delivery are critical.

• Solid background with CI/CD systems, treating pipelines and infrastructure declaratively as code.

• Experience in designing or refining automated testing and deployment workflows, including integration testing and staged or progressive delivery.

• Strong grasp of observability principles, including metrics, logging, tracing, service-level objectives, and actionable alerting.

• Experience in building or maintaining internal tools or platforms utilized by other engineering teams.

• Experience in defining or enhancing engineering practices such as code review standards, operational readiness, runbooks, incident response, on-call expectations, or definitions of done.

• Ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases and trace application behaviors across frontend, backend, asynchronous jobs, data storage, and infrastructure.

• Experience in diagnosing complex production issues and applying insights to create lasting system improvements.

• Strong technical writing abilities, encompassing design documents, ADRs, runbooks, and incident reports.

• Experience working iteratively with a visible backlog, regular stakeholder feedback, and retrospectives.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills within a distributed team environment.

• Willingness to share knowledge and mentor peers in operational and reliability practices.
