Senior Software Developer, AI Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Design and develop robust, scalable data ingestion and integration pipelines for structured, semi-structured, unstructured, and multi-modal data (e.g., databases, documents, APIs, events), ensuring that data is ready for AI, governed, secure, and observable.

• Construct and expand retrieval infrastructure, including vector storage, embedding pipelines, hybrid search, and graph-based knowledge representations, while enhancing data modeling for optimal retrieval quality.

• Create and manage agent memory systems and pipelines for AI system signals (tracing, feedback, evaluation, and usage data) to facilitate observability and ongoing improvement.

• Implement data quality, validation, monitoring, and testing frameworks within production pipelines, ensuring compliance with governance, access control, lineage, and security standards, particularly in the safe handling of sensitive data in AI retrieval and generation workflows.

• Oversee, diagnose, and enhance AI data pipelines and retrieval workflows for reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness, incorporating strong observability and resilient processing patterns.

• Design and assist in evaluation workflows for AI systems, enabling offline testing, benchmarking, and the continuous enhancement of retrieval and agent performance over time.

• Drive practical platform development by establishing clear contracts between AI services and data systems, minimizing coupling, and enhancing developer experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong fundamentals in software engineering, including the design of maintainable, testable systems and ownership of features from start to finish.

• Experience in production environments with distributed systems, covering async workflows, failure modes, retries, and eventual consistency.

• Practical experience in building and managing data pipelines for AI systems, such as embedding pipelines, retrieval workflows, or feedback data processing.

• Familiarity with AI-related data infrastructure, including vector databases, search systems, or graph-based storage.

• Expertise in retrieval systems (RAG), embedding pipelines, or hybrid search (vector + keyword).

• Background in agent frameworks, agent memory systems, or orchestration of tool-using AI systems.

• Experience in operating production systems, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.

• Cloud experience on AWS, including building production systems with storage, messaging, and orchestration.

• Proficiency in infrastructure as code, with a preference for CDK and acceptance of CloudFormation or Terraform.

• Strong collaboration and communication abilities, with a knack for mentoring and enhancing engineering maturity through reviews and design discussions.

• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
