Senior Software Architect, Audience Lifecycle

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the architecture of Personalization & Data Systems by designing, optimizing, and scaling real-time data ecosystems and event-driven pipelines that enhance personalized audience experiences across NPR's digital platforms.

• Create Self-Service Infrastructure by developing robust frameworks, governance standards, and APIs that empower engineering, analytics, and marketing teams to independently utilize data and personalization tools.

• Direct Technology Strategy & Standards by assessing emerging technologies, establishing contemporary architecture standards (including medallion architecture and orchestration frameworks), and promoting their adoption across product lines.

• Provide Technical Oversight & Governance by offering technical guidance and cross-divisional supervision for complex, high-impact engineering projects influencing multiple teams and systems.

• Engage in Collaborative Solutioning & Planning by working alongside product managers, engineering leaders, and stakeholders during OKR planning, roadmap formulation, and technical proposal evaluations.

• Ensure Code & Architecture Quality by mentoring engineering colleagues through in-depth design reviews, defining code standards, aligning with security/privacy regulations (GDPR/CPPA), and implementing cost-optimization strategies.

• Maintain Production Excellence & Operational Support by participating in system deployments, establishing CI/CD best practices, troubleshooting production incidents, and joining the engineering on-call rotation post initial onboarding.

• Foster Team Growth & Inclusion by assisting in the onboarding of new technical staff, engaging in inclusive hiring practices, and actively contributing to continuous process improvements within scrum environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in designing and leading solution and architecture planning within a multi-team setting.

• At least 5 years of experience in designing systems where scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency are prioritized.

• Over 5 years of experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, etc.) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).

• More than 5 years of experience developing applications that span multiple platforms such as web, mobile, voice, APIs, and system integrations utilizing modern languages and frameworks.

• Proven experience in integrating with external APIs/Services.

• Capability to design and lead practical technical designs.

• Demonstrated expertise in creating real-time integrations and data-centric applications & services that facilitate personalized user experiences at scale.

• Proficient in data governance strategies and their implementation.

• Familiarity with medallion architecture.

• Proficient in Node/TypeScript and Python.

• Experience in developing consumer-facing high-traffic applications and addressing related concerns such as SEO, browser performance, and CDN configurations.

• Acquainted with Data Privacy and Compliance issues (GDPR, CPPA, etc.).

• Experienced in test and development automation.

• Familiar with version control systems (preferably Git).

• Knowledgeable in cost-optimization & controls, forecasting, and assessing trade-offs for high availability systems.
