Senior Site Reliability Engineer

📋 Description

• Assist Honeycomb in scaling our backend systems to accommodate our highest-volume customers.

• Foster organizational trust through open communication, and provide and receive constructive and compassionate feedback.

• Collaborate with other backend teams to thoroughly explore our stack, ensuring we maximize the potential of our infrastructure.

• Undergo training to become, and subsequently train others as, an Incident Commander.

• Support SRE and Honeycomb in cultivating a robust cross-Atlantic engineering culture.

• Engage in the team’s on-call rotation as part of a new follow-the-sun model on the EU side.

• Assist the organization in navigating the trade-offs between reliability and its various goals and priorities.

• Optional: Serve as an external ambassador through blog contributions, conference presentations, and talks, with backing from our DevRel team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with AWS and Kubernetes.

• Proven track record in cost analysis and reduction.

• Strong expertise in Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD practices.

• Project management capabilities.

• Software engineering background (experience with Golang and performance engineering is a plus).

• Familiarity with Kafka or another high-volume distributed system.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adjust your communication style for different audiences and provide direct feedback when issues arise.

• A desire to understand how people and systems operate, alongside a readiness to engage them as partners in your initiatives.

• Knowledge of observability concepts (SLOs, instrumentation) and data-driven decision-making.

• Comfort with ambiguity, coupled with a proactive approach to action and experimentation.

• Interest in both the technical and interpersonal aspects of reliability engineering.

• Experience working within geographically distributed teams.

🏝️ Benefits

• A stake in our success - generous equity through an employee-friendly stock program.

• Pay is determined by transparent levels relative to experience, rather than negotiation strength.

• Ample time to recharge with unlimited PTO.

• A distributed-first mindset and culture (truly!).

• Home office, co-working, and internet stipends provided.

• Comprehensive benefits coverage for employees, with additional options available for dependents.

• Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, regardless of the pathway to parenthood.
