This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.
• Assist Honeycomb in scaling our backend systems to accommodate our highest-volume customers.
• Foster organizational trust through open communication, and provide and receive constructive and compassionate feedback.
• Collaborate with other backend teams to thoroughly explore our stack, ensuring we maximize the potential of our infrastructure.
• Undergo training to become, and subsequently train others as, an Incident Commander.
• Support SRE and Honeycomb in cultivating a robust cross-Atlantic engineering culture.
• Engage in the team’s on-call rotation as part of a new follow-the-sun model on the EU side.
• Assist the organization in navigating the trade-offs between reliability and its various goals and priorities.
• Optional: Serve as an external ambassador through blog contributions, conference presentations, and talks, with backing from our DevRel team.
• Extensive experience with AWS and Kubernetes.
• Proven track record in cost analysis and reduction.
• Strong expertise in Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD practices.
• Project management capabilities.
• Software engineering background (experience with Golang and performance engineering is a plus).
• Familiarity with Kafka or another high-volume distributed system.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adjust your communication style for different audiences and provide direct feedback when issues arise.
• A desire to understand how people and systems operate, alongside a readiness to engage them as partners in your initiatives.
• Knowledge of observability concepts (SLOs, instrumentation) and data-driven decision-making.
• Comfort with ambiguity, coupled with a proactive approach to action and experimentation.
• Interest in both the technical and interpersonal aspects of reliability engineering.
• Experience working within geographically distributed teams.
