This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Spearhead the strategy, roadmap, and execution of security engineering initiatives spanning enterprise security, security operations, and detection security engineering.
• Oversee, mentor, and develop a team of security experts, ensuring they have well-defined priorities, measurable objectives, effective operating rhythms, and opportunities for career advancement.
• Develop and enhance proactive and preventative security measures across corporate systems, cloud environments, identity platforms, endpoints, SaaS applications, and security operations workflows.
• Enhance Upstart’s capability to identify, investigate, and respond to threats by improving detection coverage, alert quality, logging strategies, response playbooks, automation, and operational processes.
• Lead cross-functional security initiatives involving Engineering, IT, Compliance, Legal, Risk, and business teams, ensuring that security priorities align with company goals, risk tolerance, and operational needs.
• Establish and monitor significant security engineering and operations metrics, including program health, control effectiveness, detection and response performance, remediation progress, and risk reduction results.
• Assess and refine security tools, processes, and controls to decrease systemic risk, boost operational efficiency, and ensure the team concentrates on the most valuable security tasks.
• Elevate the maturity of Upstart’s security programs by identifying recurring challenges, addressing root causes, and developing solutions.
• 8+ years of experience in information security, security engineering, enterprise security, security operations, threat detection and response, incident response, vulnerability management, cloud security, or related fields.
• 3+ years of experience in managing security professionals or leading security engineering programs across multiple teams or stakeholder groups.
• Proven experience in managing roadmaps, priorities, metrics, and execution of security programs with cross-functional dependencies.
• Experience in building or managing security capabilities in cloud-based and enterprise environments, along with familiarity with common security tools, logging, monitoring, detection, identity, endpoint, and response practices.
• Experience in leading security incidents or operational security programs, including coordinating investigations, communicating with stakeholders, tracking remediation efforts, and implementing post-incident improvements.
• Experience collaborating with Engineering, IT, Compliance, Legal, Risk, or business teams to achieve measurable security outcomes.
