Senior Scientific Programmer

Posted Jul 29

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the numerical solutions and mathematical/computer science algorithms that power GoldSim's simulation engine, from theoretical foundations (equations, algorithm design) to implementation within our C++ codebase.

• Drive practical, real-world enhancements to GoldSim's numerical capabilities and suggest new features based on everyday and discipline-specific customer requirements.

• Engage in design discussions throughout the entire development lifecycle, extending beyond just the mathematical layer.

• Develop GoldSim models that utilize and test the platform's numerical capabilities for QA and verification, serve as example models included with the product, and provide direct support to customers.

• Employ hands-on model-building as a primary method to ensure that new or enhanced algorithms perform accurately in practice.

• Document both the theoretical foundations (equations, algorithm descriptions) and the practical application of GoldSim's numerical methods to prevent knowledge from being centralized in a single individual.

• Collaborate with the founding engineer to formalize existing modeling, QA, and support methodologies.

• Work in conjunction with the software engineering team to integrate new or improved numerical capabilities into the wider platform.

• Translate business and product requirements into detailed technical specifications.

• Act as a technical resource for customer support and QA concerning advanced modeling and numerical inquiries.

• Clearly communicate technical and mathematical concepts to engineers, QA, and product stakeholders.

• Foster curiosity for contemporary computational methods, including using machine learning to enhance, approximate, or extend traditional numerical simulation techniques.

• Help identify opportunities to modernize GoldSim's current algorithmic infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s or PhD degree in science or engineering with exceptional academic achievements.

• Extensive experience with applied mathematics and numerical methods for addressing scientific and engineering challenges (e.g., matrix algebra, numerical methods for solving partial differential equations).

• Background in earth sciences or civil engineering, preferably with experience in contaminant transport modeling.

• Significant C++ programming experience, ideally in scientific or engineering applications; familiarity with commercial or open-source numerical libraries and frameworks is advantageous.

• Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective numerical solutions for real-world issues.

• Strong communication skills, with effective writing abilities and a willingness to engage with team members.

• Experience in developing and supporting Windows desktop applications is a plus, as is practical experience with data science tools such as MATLAB, R, or Tableau.

• Experience applying AI/ML techniques (e.g., machine learning models, LLM-based tools, or AI-assisted development) to scientific or engineering software is an advantage.

🏝️ Benefits

• Become part of a team where your contributions directly influence software relied upon by engineers and scientists globally.

• Experience genuine autonomy and assist in shaping the future of a product with a worldwide reputation for excellence.

• Opportunities to work in person at our Seattle office as desired.
