
Senior Sales Engineer – Mining and Earthcutting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• This position requires travel to various mining sites across North America, including visits to underground operations, surface mining activities, material processing facilities, and any other necessary mining operations.
• Accompany customers to the mine working face, whether underground, on the surface, or at material processing sites.
• Collaborate with customers to evaluate tool performance, assess cutting conditions, and establish value propositions at the working face, whether underground or in surface pits.
• Assist in recommending products, outlining test procedures, and evaluating product performance testing on-site with customers, with or without the support of the Application Engineering team.
• Serve as the main customer contact for multiple assigned accounts within the North American mining sector, representing Kennametal.
• Achieve assigned annual sales targets by identifying and qualifying customer needs, while selling products and services to new clients.
• Nurture customer relationships with existing accounts to protect current business and increase market share in the mining industry.
• Forge relationships with new accounts, including discussions on value-selling, pricing, inventory needs, and other customer requirements.
• Comprehend customer needs, business operations, technology, and product requirements, effectively aligning Kennametal solutions to meet those needs.
• Identify new sales opportunities through Kennametal’s engagement at all buyer levels.
• Collaborate with the Application Engineering team for in-field support and testing of new product developments.
• Conduct sales forecasting, account planning, and other sales administrative tasks to profitably grow the assigned business.
• Fully leverage customer relationship management (CRM) software processes, including managing customer contacts, correspondence, competitive intelligence, opportunity pipelines, and proven solutions.
• Demonstrate continuous improvement in technical, product, and sales skills.
• Work in tandem with inside sales and customer service team members as necessary.
• Coordinate with finance (AR) to bring overdue accounts up to date.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in the mining industry within the USA and/or Canada, with comprehensive knowledge of mining applications and operations.
• A bachelor’s degree is required, or alternatively, an associate degree in mechanical engineering or engineering technology.
• Alternatively, 10+ years of experience in mining operations may be accepted in place of a degree.
• A preference for candidates with at least 3 years of successful sales experience.
• Strong skills in understanding customer needs and effectively communicating them.
• Competent understanding and communication of all product and technical information.
• Ability to conduct necessary territory analysis and planning.
• Capability to understand and communicate complex contract conditions and to formulate proposals.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills.
• Physically capable of passing both underground and surface mining safety certifications and working in an underground mining environment.
• Duties may include crawling, climbing, kneeling, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
