Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Migrate two existing applications into the Rails 8 codebase while establishing sustainable boundaries.

• Convert accumulated business logic into coherent Domain-Driven Design abstractions.

• Implement features from start to finish — engaging in specification discussions with the Product Owner and overseeing production deployment.

• Play a role in shaping the system architecture during team discussions.

• Write pull requests and assist less experienced developers through knowledge sharing and mentoring.

• Enhance the deployment process to be faster and more reliable.

• Develop style guides and conventions.

• Work on a unified codebase for three merged domains.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in production Ruby on Rails on a long-term maintained application.

• Strong inclination towards Domain-Driven Design.

• Capability to recognize bloated models, absent abstractions, and inconsistent domain terminology within the code.

• A mentoring approach and a readiness to clarify design and solution choices.

• Proficiency in working with a plain Ubuntu server, including SSH, systemd, logs, and deployment scripts.

• Willingness to adhere to and refine existing style guides.

• Ability to self-manage and take accountability within a flat organizational structure.

• Nice to have: Experience in merging multiple applications or services into a single codebase.

• Nice to have: Advanced PostgreSQL skills, encompassing query analysis, indexing, and migrating large tables without downtime.

• Nice to have: Experience in regulated sectors such as energy, finance, or mobility.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with Sidekiq under load, idempotent jobs, and retry strategies.

• Nice to have: Basic frontend understanding of Hotwire/Turbo, React, or Vue.
