This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Develop and sustain intricate 3D models and 2D schematics for data center cooling solutions.
• Provide support for hydronic piping, sheet metal, structural components, brackets, coil/fan interfaces, CDUs, chillers, evaporators, and condensers.
• Generate and issue manufacturing drawings incorporating precise dimensions, tolerances, annotations, materials, finishes, welding requirements, and inspection specifications.
• Conduct layout analyses, clearance assessments, interference evaluations, serviceability inspections, and manufacturability reviews prior to drawing issuance.
• Facilitate design standardization, cost optimization, supplier modifications, and product enhancements through the ECR/ECO process.
• Create, revise, and manage engineering BOMs, part identifiers, assembly hierarchies, and drawing sets within the relevant PDM/ERP systems.
• Ensure that design documentation is comprehensive, accurate, revision-controlled, and consistent with the approved product configuration.
• Coordinate drawing and BOM modifications with Engineering, Project Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and vendors.
• Evaluate vendor drawings, 3D models, datasheets, and component interfaces for fit, form, function, and manufacturability.
• Assist in prototype assembly, lab testing units, design validation processes, and implementation of engineering changes.
• Collaborate with VA and TX lab teams on fit evaluations, component configurations, piping layouts, instrumentation placements, and testing setups.
• Support field challenges, C2/warranty issues, nonconformance assessments, and corrective actions related to design documentation.
• Offer practical design recommendations to enhance assembly, serviceability, reliability, manufacturability, and quality.
• Serve as a senior design resource for designated programs, assisting in defining drawing scope, priorities, timelines, and deliverables for release.
• Mentor designers, drafters, and technical support staff in CAD standards, drawing quality, and configuration management.
• Engage in design reviews, ECO assessments, supplier consultations, lab build evaluations, and manufacturing readiness discussions.
• Communicate risks, outstanding items, schedule implications, and necessary decisions to engineers, project leaders, and management.
• Associate's degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Over 7 years of pertinent mechanical design / CAD experience in HVAC, industrial equipment, data center cooling, refrigeration, hydronic systems, sheet metal, or piping.
• Proven track record of producing production-ready drawings, complex assemblies, BOMs, and finalized engineering documentation.
• Experience in supporting new product development, prototype production, lab testing, product maintenance, or manufacturing implementation.
• Familiarity with manufacturability design, assembly design, supplier collaboration, and engineering change management.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 / GD&T, welding symbols, sheet metal fabrication, pipe fabrication, and industrial assembly methods is preferred.
