This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Design and develop the AI infrastructure for Home Assistant, encompassing conversation APIs, LLM integrations, and structured tool layers.

• Create in-product agents that empower users to build and manage their homes while ensuring user control.

• Link Home Assistant to the agentic ecosystem through open standards like MCP.

• Evolve Assist into a context-aware home management assistant featuring cross-session memory, documentation, configuration, and troubleshooting functionalities.

• Ensure AI features are easily discoverable, simple to configure, optional, and straightforward to disable.

• Develop AI-driven workflows for issue triage, review assistance, and contributor tools.

• Perform code reviews for teammate and community pull requests.

• Collaborate with the community to investigate and resolve reported issues.

• Contribute to architectural proposals and modifications to the codebase.

• Work closely with the open-source community to evaluate contributions and incorporate them into Home Assistant.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in Python back-end development.

• More than 3 years of experience with asyncio and threading.

• Developed and deployed LLM-powered features in production Python, including tool invocation, agent loops, streaming, evaluation, and managing model failures.

• Experience working with the Model Context Protocol, including MCP servers or clients, or similar agent tool-calling interfaces.

• Familiarity with local, on-device inference technologies, such as Ollama or llama.cpp.

• Solid understanding of the strengths and limitations of language models and how to design reliable, private, and safe systems.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently.

• Strong experience in effectively operating within a remote, asynchronous environment.

• Proficient with Git and GitHub.

• Professional proficiency in English, with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• Must currently reside in and be eligible to work within Europe.
