This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Establish and direct Vertex’s BCA/PCA service line, encompassing methodology, standards, and delivery model.
• Define the criteria for a high-quality, defensible assessment, emphasizing clarity and insights for capital planning.
• Serve as the Engineer of Record, responsible for reviewing and sealing reports in compliance with provincial regulations.
• Act as the primary technical authority for all BCA/PCA and reserve fund projects.
• Build, train, and mentor a team of technologists, inspectors, and field personnel.
• Develop standardized inspection protocols, checklists, and guidance tools.
• Implement a scalable model where field personnel gather data, ensuring quality and consistency through senior technical review.
• Guarantee uniformity in data collection, photographic documentation, and identification of deficiencies.
• Establish and manage QA/QC processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and defensibility of all reports.
• Review field data and reports to apply appropriate assumptions, limitations, and cost opinions.
• Manage risk by clearly communicating scope, limitations, and uncertainties.
• Oversee project execution across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, and multi-residential properties.
• Ensure deliverables adhere to timelines, budgets, and client expectations.
• Directly support complex or high-risk assessments.
• Facilitate growth into reserve fund studies, depreciation reports, and the condominium/strata market.
• Assist with proposals, foster client relationships, and promote the expansion of the BCA service line throughout Canada and the U.S.
• Identify opportunities to integrate services with ESA, roofing, and building science offerings.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Building Science Engineering.
• Eng. designation in good standing with a Canadian provincial regulatory body.
• Multi-provincial licensing is considered an asset.
• Over 10 years of experience in building sciences, with substantial expertise in BCA/PCA and capital planning.
• Strong comprehension of building systems and their lifecycle performance.
• Extensive knowledge of ASTM E2018 and related assessment frameworks.
• Proven ability to train, mentor, and supervise field-based assessment teams.
• Excellent technical writing skills, with the capability to produce clear, defensible, and client-ready reports.
