This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Assists the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of projects, both large and small.
• Operates effectively and efficiently within set budgets, while monitoring performance on a weekly basis.
• Develops and negotiates project scopes, fees, and schedules with sub-consultants under the direction of the Project Manager.
• Responsible for creating technical solutions for complex projects by leveraging engineering knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality work. Aids in the development and execution of all components of the project scope.
• Aids the Project Manager in adhering to assigned project timelines and budgets for complex projects by actively reporting on project advancements and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope.
• Collaborates closely with Project Managers to gain project management experience. Responsible for financial outcomes on tasks or projects under their purview.
• Acts as the Technical Lead in their respective discipline for more intricate projects, ensuring technical coordination among other design disciplines and subcontractors or sub-consultants.
• Supervises and mentors less experienced staff by providing daily guidance and reviewing their work and progress. Contributes to the completion of annual performance reviews.
• Develops technical strategies, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large-scale or more complex projects to create an effective and high-quality proposal.
• Ensures quality control within the discipline by reviewing designs, verifying calculations, assumptions, and the basis of design on complex projects.
• Assists in coordination and attends client meetings, including public hearings. Prepares and delivers oral presentations for clients concerning project deliverables.
• Supports the Project Manager by leading construction administration tasks such as construction progress meetings, submittal reviews, preparation of meeting agendas and minutes, reviewing daily and weekly construction reports, preparing payment applications, RFIs, and change orders, coordinating with Resident Project Representatives, completing project closeout, and tracking construction schedules. Provides updates to the Project Manager.
• Shows awareness of corporate priorities regarding work quality, client satisfaction, and project profitability.
• Understands and recognizes contract terms and conditions, professional liability issues, and advises the Project Manager of any concerns.
• Engages in approved external associations and professional conferences, presenting or authoring technical papers.
• Identifies potential claim areas by preparing documentation and reporting to the Project Manager.
• May oversee a direct report, including responsibilities for workload management, time and expense approvals, and career path development.
• Bachelor's of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in drinking water or wastewater design.
• Registered Professional Engineer, or in the process of obtaining licensure within one year in the state(s) where Apex operates, or the ability to secure licensure through reciprocity.
• Proven writing skills necessary for preparing technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and contracts and subcontract scopes of work.
• Supervisory skills and a willingness to mentor junior staff.
• Experience in coordinating the efforts of other disciplines and external consultants.
• Strong ability to interact effectively with clients.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
