Senior Project Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Ongoing oversight of all active projects in the Americas region, which includes managing project financials and working capital such as invoicing, collections, unbilled revenue, payments, cash flow, and foreign exchange exposure.

• Tracking and assessing risks and opportunities related to project expenses, budget overruns, revenue recognition, forecasting accuracy, margin erosion, and project delivery.

• Enhancing project profitability and operational effectiveness through financial data analysis, fact-based insights, and proactive collaboration with business partners.

• Maintaining project forecasts that encompass revenue, costs, gross margin, cash flow, and backlog conversion assumptions.

• Reviewing Estimate to Complete (ETC) assumptions alongside Project Managers and challenging forecast assumptions when necessary.

• Engaging closely with the project organization, serving as the financial business partner and primary liaison between Finance and Project Managers.

• Acting as Finance's representative during internal project kick-off, review, and close-out meetings.

• Evaluating completed projects to gain insights into financial and operational performance and identifying lessons learned, which includes transforming insights from past projects into recommendations for future customer project planning, bidding, and execution.

• Reviewing project budgets and financial data within ERP prior to monthly reporting and closing processes.

• Collaborating with Accounting during month-end close, which includes monthly evaluations of project accruals, reserves, and project-related balance sheet accounts, as well as revenue recognition assessments and validation of project financial data.

• Managing project financial reporting at month-end and providing clear explanations of variances, risks, and opportunities.

• Identifying potential foreign exchange risks associated with projects and recommending suitable mitigation strategies.

• Supporting the Delivery organization and other departments with financial analysis, reporting, and project-related business insights.

• Assisting in the implementation of process improvements, ERP upgrades, Power BI reporting, and automation initiatives that enhance project visibility, forecasting, and financial governance.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar capacity, including project controlling, project accounting, operational finance, FP&A, audit, consulting, or financial controlling.

• Experience in supporting project-based businesses, ideally within automation, manufacturing, engineering, construction, systems integration, or professional services.

• Proven experience collaborating directly with Project Managers and Operations leadership.

• Strong understanding of business operations with the capability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.

• Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to interpret and analyze financial and operational data, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations that support decision-making to enhance project profitability.

• Background in supporting forecasting and financial planning, covering revenue, cost, margin, and cash flow forecasting, backlog conversion, and revenue timing analysis, as well as Estimate to Complete (ETC) and variance analysis.

• Strong systems expertise and advanced Excel skills, including experience with ERP systems and project accounting environments. Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and/or Power BI is a plus.

• Previous experience in reporting automation and process improvements is preferred.

• Understanding of project accounting principles, including revenue recognition, project accruals and reserves, working capital and cash flow management, as well as foreign exchange exposure and risk management.

• Experience working in an international setting is regarded as an advantage.
