This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Effectively underwrite complex new and renewal business by selecting risks, pricing appropriately, maintaining contractual integrity, and managing accounts, all while adhering to delegated authority and ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Exhibit critical thinking skills in evaluating risks and pinpointing exposures and controls.
• Price risks in accordance with the identified exposures and controls.
• Establish suitable terms and conditions to ensure a profitable portfolio.
• Document assigned files with a comprehensive underwriting thought process.
• Act as a subject matter expert to support team members in navigating complex risks.
• Utilize strong portfolio management skills to meet profit and premium targets aligned with designated business unit strategies.
• Attain production objectives within the designated territory.
• Handle marketing responsibilities, which encompass both in-person and virtual sales interactions with agencies and clients.
• Identify and cultivate a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.
• Build and sustain successful relationships with producers and agencies.
• Represent UFG in the market by clearly communicating the company's underwriting, risk control, and claims capabilities across all business units.
• Collaborate with various internal partners including Business Unit and Line of Business underwriting, Sales and Distribution, Underwriting Center, Underwriting Support, Risk Control, Legal, and Claims to ensure optimal stakeholder engagement.
• Conduct agency reviews, gathering relevant intelligence regarding market opportunities.
• Provide management with insightful feedback on the current state of the marketplace, agencies, and competition.
• Mentor and train team members, serving as a resource for inquiries, resolving escalated issues, and providing guidance.
• Advocate for the field underwriter perspective in significant corporate initiatives and projects.
• Assist in the implementation of technical underwriting training and content.
• A four-year college degree is preferred.
• Completion of or progress towards AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations is preferred.
• Over 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting is preferred.
• Advanced skills in risk evaluation and knowledge of insurance contracts.
• Ability to implement current underwriting strategies for the assigned territory to make informed underwriting decisions.
• Strong leadership capabilities, including mentoring, coaching, and training skills.
• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment while efficiently prioritizing and completing tasks.
• Exceptional customer service abilities.
• Effective stakeholder management skills, including building a high level of trust with internal and external partners.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
