Senior Product Underwriting Counsel

📋 Description

• Directs the vision and strategy for underwriting in a technology or AI-enabled product or product line.

• Assesses, communicates, and manages title insurance, regulatory, operational, and model-related risks associated with a technology or AI-enabled underwriting solution.

• Provides expertise in underwriting, title insurance, real estate conveyancing, and underwriting workflows to product managers, designers, researchers, engineers, and data science/AI teams.

• Collaborates with product, engineering, and data science teams to design and implement AI-assisted underwriting tools and workflows.

• Works alongside legal, compliance, information security, and risk management stakeholders to promote responsible and compliant use of AI technologies.

• Acts as a strategic intermediary between transaction underwriters and technology teams, ensuring AI-enabled products are aligned with practical underwriting practices.

• Plays a key role in product strategy conversations.

• Engages with stakeholders from various departments to remove obstacles to product success.

• Exhibits a profound understanding of market dynamics, competitive threats, and competitive advantages.

• Simplifies complex title insurance and real estate concepts into clear ideas for product team members, influencing product strategy.

• Clarifies intricate technology product concepts into accessible ideas for transaction underwriters, impacting transaction underwriting protocols.

• Completes tasks and assignments outlined in the product roadmap.

• Collaborates with the product manager to guide product evolution and prioritize initiatives.

• Provides mentorship and training to junior product underwriting counsel.

• Aids in the formulation and enhancement of product underwriting principles across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (Law Degree) is mandatory.

• Must be licensed to practice law in a manner suitable for the position and location.

• 3-5 years of experience as product underwriting counsel; or 7-10 years of experience in title underwriting or real estate law practice.

• Knowledge of AI-assisted workflows, generative AI tools, machine learning concepts, and automation technologies pertinent to underwriting and real estate transactions.

• Capability to assess AI-generated outputs for accuracy, explainability, consistency, and relevance to underwriting.

• Exceptional verbal and visual communication skills.

• Advanced understanding of land titles, real estate law, and the conveyancing process.

• In-depth knowledge of federal and state laws governing title insurance and settlement services.

• Proven curiosity and adaptability towards emerging technologies and digital transformation.

• Strong business acumen and strategic agility that drives outcomes and successfully negotiates for resources.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to convey complex concepts to various audiences across the organization.

• Proven track record of designing, developing, and executing intricate projects.
