Regulatory Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas.

📋 Description

• Deliver specialized legal counsel, analysis, and insights on insurance regulatory issues, with a focus on compliance and interpretation of the Compact, Bylaws, Uniform Standards, Operating Procedures, and organizational mandates.

• Partner with executive leadership to address legal inquiries related to product review processes, rulemaking, and support for members and committees.

• Conduct research and analysis on product content requirements to aid in the creation of new or revised Uniform Standards.

• Investigate and evaluate administrative requirements to assist in formulating new and updated rules, Operating Procedures, and processes.

• Offer legal advice on the requirements and activities pertaining to Compact rulemaking.

• Provide legal and technical support to product operations involved in the review of insurance products in alignment with the Compact and Uniform Standards.

• Act as the legal liaison for state insurance departments, the Management Committee, and advisory committees regarding Compact legislation, principles, and Uniform Standards.

• Monitor, research, and assess the implications of state and federal legislative and regulatory changes on Compact Uniform Standards, Operating Procedures, and processes.

• Respond promptly to inquiries and concerns from Commissioners, regulators, legislators, company and industry representatives, consumers, and the NAIC team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

• Active membership in at least one state bar association in the U.S.

• 5 to 10 years of legal or regulatory experience in the insurance sector or another financial industry.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

• High degree of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Capacity to handle multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.

• Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.

• Experience in insurance product compliance and/or knowledge of interstate compacts is preferred.

• Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint.

• Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, and NILS.

• Must be eligible to work for any employer in the U.S.

• Frequent out-of-state, overnight travel is required.
