This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Develop a unified vision and a cohesive strategy for HubSpot's data primitives, which include objects, properties, property groups, associations, and the metadata systems that enhance their discoverability and extensibility.
• Take ownership of the API mission for the Data Platform: establish standards for how our data layer is presented to developers, define the direction for API quality and consistency, and collaborate with the Ecosystem and Partnerships teams to identify where API capabilities can enhance platform value.
• Facilitate alignment on schema evolution throughout HubSpot by working with PMs, engineers, and architects across Marketing, Sales, Service, and AI Agents, ensuring the data model evolves in a backward-compatible and forward-thinking manner.
• Lead new product initiatives from initial concept through to launch, including enhancing how customers define and manage their data models within HubSpot.
• Gain insights into our customers and their data complexities by engaging with them directly, from SMBs managing simple contact records to enterprise teams operating complex multi-object data architectures.
• Leverage data and developer research to pinpoint friction points in our API surface, devise strategies to tackle these issues, and collaborate with engineering to implement improvements that significantly enhance developer experience.
• Advocate for the data primitives and API roadmap to senior leadership, Ecosystem partners, and key enterprise clients.
• Proven experience in successfully launching products to customers, preferably in platform, data infrastructure, or developer tooling environments.
• Strong understanding of data modeling principles, including entity-relationship modeling, schema design, metadata systems, and data normalization; experience in managing or contributing to a metadata platform, data catalog, or CRM data model is highly advantageous.
• Solid API knowledge — you have experience shaping REST or GraphQL APIs and can navigate considerations such as versioning, backward compatibility, latency tradeoffs, and developer ergonomics.
• A multidisciplinary mindset that integrates market, business, and technical insights to identify opportunities and evaluate tradeoffs.
• Proficiency in reading and writing technical specifications; comfortable reviewing architecture diagrams, ERDs, and API contracts.
• Capability to convey product vision to diverse audiences, including engineers, executives, and external developers.
• Deep respect for the expertise and insights of collaborators, including engineering, design, UX research, analytics, and others.
• A commitment to deeply understanding customer needs and effectively addressing their challenges, particularly for enterprise customers with complex data requirements.
• A desire to comprehend how HubSpot products function and their reliance on the underlying data model.
• Ability to make informed decisions, test assumptions, and iterate effectively — often in the absence of complete information.
• Proven adaptability in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
• Awareness of the competitive software landscape, including how other CRM and data platforms handle schema extensibility and developer ecosystems.
• Experience utilizing or developing supporting infrastructure for AI products and agentic experiences.
