Remotery

Senior Product Design Engineer

Posted 1 day ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• You will take complete ownership of the design system, which includes tokens, primitives, components, patterns, and documentation, ensuring it is developed in code as well as in Figma. You will manage its distribution, consumption, and the processes for updates and maintenance.

• You will establish the operating model for how teams can implement new patterns that are not yet in the system without causing fragmentation, and how successful patterns are integrated into the core system. This includes managing stable primitives that evolve gradually, and product patterns that can be developed swiftly, with a clear path connecting the two.

• You will treat engineers as your primary users. The success of the system hinges on making it faster to build with than around it, so you will monitor coverage, identify discrepancies, and promote system adoption.

• You will engage directly with the codebase each week, developing tangible surface work. Your experiences in shipping will inform the quality of the system and help you anticipate lag before it becomes an issue.

• You will implement AI guardrails to ensure that generated interfaces align with brand standards. When engineers or agents create screens, the system should facilitate the best outcomes effortlessly. This requires that the system is understandable to models as well as to people.

• You will incorporate accessibility into the system to ensure that what we deliver is also accessible.

• You will act as the connection between design and production, collaborating with product designers to transform validated patterns into system defaults and bridging the gap between designed concepts and actual product releases.

• You will ensure that the system is straightforward and intuitive, as users are unlikely to adopt something they need to reverse-engineer.

• You will influence key metrics that demonstrate the system's effectiveness: component coverage across different surfaces, adoption rates, efficiency, and throughput.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in developing production interfaces using a modern frontend stack, with genuine ownership of the products delivered.

• Direct experience managing a design system utilized by multiple teams across various products, in live production—not merely a component library or Figma file.

• A well-defined perspective on distribution and consumption, whether through published packages, registries, source distribution, or alternative methods. You understand the trade-offs involved and can advocate for your recommendations, including how engineers and agents interact with it.

• A strong design sensibility. You don’t need to be a designer, but you can distinguish between good and subpar quality, and maintain high standards.

• Solid engineering fundamentals in technologies such as Vue, React, component architecture, scalable CSS, performance, and testing.

• Hands-on experience with AI tools integrated into your build workflow, including prototyping.

• Proficiency in accessibility, with a tendency to address issues structurally rather than on a case-by-case basis.

• Comfort in collaborating with designers as equal partners, along with the ability to assertively provide feedback.

• Exceptional written communication skills. Your documentation will be an integral part of the product.

🏝️ Benefits

• Competitive pay based on Carta data.

• Employee recognition through Bonusly for milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, and achievements.

• 401(k) retirement plan with a company match of 50% up to 6% of compensation after a 90-day period.

• We prioritize work-life balance for our employees and encourage taking advantage of Unlimited PTO.

• Supportive time off policies, including paid volunteer days and company holidays.

• Comprehensive employer-contributed healthcare benefits, covering medical, dental, and vision, with options available for dependents and choices for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).

• 12 weeks of full pay for primary parent leave and 4 weeks of full pay for secondary parent leave, including for adoption.

• We value community and regularly host engaging company outings and events.
