Senior Principal Hyperscale Rack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the principal architect and development manager for intricate rack-level solutions encompassing mechanical, electrical, power, thermal, networking, and software integration sectors.

• Lead technical engagements with customers from the RFI/RFQ phase through to the initial hardware delivery.

• Convert evolving customer needs into program frameworks that align with engineering execution.

• Manage customer expectations while addressing both technical and cost-related risks.

• Foster cross-functional collaboration among executives, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and program teams.

• Take ownership of rack-level architecture, including power distribution, air and liquid cooling, cable routing, serviceability, and manufacturability.

• Provide expert technical guidance on PDUs, busbars, CDUs, manifolds, QDs, airflow design, and high-density compute integration.

• Oversee architectural decisions that impact performance, costs, scalability, and deployment efficiency.

• Drive program execution from concept through to production, managing milestones, schedules, risks, and accountability.

• Support readiness from NPI scoping through prototyping and mass production.

• Enhance designs with customers and stakeholders based on feedback from deployments and operational insights.

• Collaborate with compliance and certification teams to meet global regulatory requirements.

• Mentor engineers and establish best practices for rack architecture and integration.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical failures and field issues.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field is mandatory.

• At least 10 years of experience in engineering, systems integration, or the design of data center hardware.

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in rack-level (L11) solution design and integration.

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in switch/server (L10) roles involving compute, storage, or networking hardware integration.

• Proven experience in developing complex rack solutions for hyperscale or large-scale data center settings.

• Experience managing project lifecycles of 12–18 months and portfolios valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

• Familiarity with EIA, ORV3, and OCP standards as well as global power architectures.

• Experience working directly with clients in technically and commercially sensitive environments.

• A robust background in program execution, including schedule management, risk assessment, and cross-functional leadership.

• Strong comprehension of mechanical systems, integration strategies, and program management principles.

• Practical experience in prototype fabrication and testing, including mechanical S&V, software burn-in, and test validation.

• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

• Capability to evaluate projects, articulate risks, and establish milestones.

• Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

• Proficient in drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation.

• Ability to present information effectively and respond to inquiries from management, clients, and the public.

• Competence in influencing others and sharing best practices.

• Familiarity with stage-gate processes in PLM.

• Ability to coach and mentor junior engineers.

• Proven success in leading within highly matrixed environments without direct reporting authority.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.

• Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, experience with liquid-cooled rack deployments, CAD and FEA proficiency, experience with global suppliers and contract manufacturers, knowledge of fluid dynamics and glycol systems, and expertise in rack compliance and validation.
