Senior PowerBI Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with Data Architects, Data Engineers, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders throughout a comprehensive analytics modernization initiative.

• Develop report deliverables based on certified semantic models.

• Assist in the development of measures and conduct report reconciliation activities.

• Provide reporting capabilities across various business domains.

• Design and create Power BI reports and dashboards utilizing the PBIP project format.

• Construct interactive visualizations, drill-through features, bookmarks, and navigation experiences.

• Deliver reporting solutions that align with business needs and enterprise standards.

• Modernize and recreate legacy reports while maintaining business logic and formatting consistency.

• Utilize shared and certified semantic models through Live Connections.

• Work alongside semantic model architects to determine reporting requirements.

• Assist in the creation and upkeep of measures under senior technical oversight.

• Validate model usability and performance for reporting tasks.

• Develop and enhance complex DAX calculations and KPIs.

• Create reusable calculations and establish reporting standards.

• Resolve DAX performance issues.

• Ensure the accurate implementation of business calculation logic.

• Conduct detailed reconciliation between legacy reports and new Power BI deliverables.

• Validate measures, calculations, totals, subtotals, and KPIs.

• Collaborate with business users to address discrepancies.

• Support UAT and facilitate business sign-off activities.

• Adhere to version control, branching, and deployment standards.

• Document development processes and decisions related to report design.

• Assist in release management activities.

• Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and project governance meetings.

• Provide technical guidance on reporting best practices and standards.

• Deliver high-quality Power BI reports punctually and assist with the transition from pilot to enterprise deployment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of practical experience in developing enterprise Power BI solutions.

• More than 3 years of experience with Power BI Service, Semantic Models, and enterprise deployment methodologies.

• Proficiency in building reports using PBIP (Power BI Project) format and source-controlled development practices.

• Expertise in developing complex DAX measures, KPIs, calculated tables, and advanced calculations.

• Experience with certified/shared semantic models utilizing Live Connection and DirectQuery methods.

• Background in migrating and modernizing legacy BI platforms (SSRS, Cognos, Business Objects, Tableau, or older Power BI reports).

• Experience working in Agile delivery teams and collaborating with Data Architects, Data Engineers, and Business Analysts.

• Familiarity with Git-based version control and deployment processes.

• Experience supporting large-scale reporting programs from pilot phase to enterprise rollout.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong grasp of Semantic Modeling concepts.

• Advanced skills in DAX development.

• Experience with Power BI Service and Workspace administration.

• Proficient in creating reports using PBIP / Power BI Projects.

• Experience accessing Enterprise Semantic Models through Live Connections.

• Strong SQL capabilities for validation and reconciliation tasks.

• Familiarity with Git repositories and source control workflows.

• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) certification.

• Experience with TMDL (Tabular Model Definition Language).

• Knowledge of XMLA endpoints and Tabular Editor.

• Familiarity with SSRS/Paginated Reports (RDL).

• Experience with Fabric Semantic Models and Databricks.

• Background in supporting Finance, ERP, or Enterprise Data Warehouse reporting solutions.

• Experience working with Azure DevOps.
