Senior Platform Engineer, Media Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design, development, maintenance, and support of components for the digital asset management platform, including automation processes and system integrations.

• Create software components along with automated unit tests.

• Collaborate with the DevOps team to sustain and enhance build and release pipelines.

• Supervise the development and upkeep of architectural and operational documentation in accordance with departmental standards.

• Work closely with clients and product managers to identify and convert functional and non-functional requirements into actionable tasks, emphasizing technical feasibility and technology investment choices.

• Collaborate with IT infrastructure and operations teams to guarantee that systems are configured and managed with suitable levels of processing/storage/network capacity, data protection, and security compliance.

• Manage the technical administration tasks necessary for maintaining the digital asset management system and Special Collections systems, including software upgrades and patch management.

• Establish service levels for platform components and ensure adequate observability in media-related systems.

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and conduct root-cause analysis for incidents and issues affecting systems and automations that support media activities.

• Generate incident reports and lead incident post-mortem reviews.

• Conduct regularly scheduled reliability assessments; outline and implement work plans to enhance service availability, reliability, and performance.

• In collaboration with the NGS architects team, provide technical and architectural guidance to both on- and off-shore software developers.

• Partner with delivery managers, product managers, and the Technology management team to uphold and improve Technology work management processes and best practices, including selecting metrics and establishing targets for process enhancement.

• Mentor and coach fellow engineers while engaging in one or more of Technology’s communities of practice that promote continuous improvement.

• Remain updated on advancements in information technology, digital asset management, and agile methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in diverse, data-rich digital environments, particularly in cloud platforms and architectures.

• Understanding of workflows and intricate digital systems.

• A bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Familiarity with digital asset management systems, digital archive systems, integrated library systems, and collections management software.

• Knowledge and experience in digital media operations, including ingest and distribution, transcoding, compression, workflow design, rights management, and access control.

• Proficient in scripting/automation/orchestration and integration with other enterprise platforms in SaaS/PaaS/IaaS environments using APIs.

• Experience with (Meta)Data in various formats, including storing, processing, and transforming data from multiple sources and destinations.

• Broad understanding of server, database, and storage infrastructures both on-premise and in the cloud, with the ability to perform hands-on database and server administration.

• Knowledge of information security and IT service management concepts and processes.

• Experience with shell scripting and service administration across Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms.

• Proficient in developing applications, automations, and scripts using Python and/or NodeJS.

• Capable of instrumenting and debugging processes, including the creation and maintenance of automated tests.

• Familiarity with work management software like Jira, Monday.com, Wrike, Asana, etc.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical issues to non-technical audiences.

• Extensive experience with agile software development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban, including collaboration with remote and hybrid teams.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Experience with Git and concepts of distributed source control management, including branching, merging, and patching.
