This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the shared platform layer encompassing the Patient Care Application, AWS, vendor integrations, Postgres, Snowflake, GitHub, CI/CD, and other essential systems.
• Develop reusable infrastructure patterns and standards.
• Design and enhance cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and an improved developer experience.
• Construct core Ruby on Rails application services for authorization/RBAC, job processing and queues, deployments, and integrations.
• Manage foundational platform services including IAM, HIE, EMR, and integration infrastructure.
• Identify infrastructure bottlenecks and establish dependable self-service workflows.
• Scale the platform across various engineering teams, products, integrations, and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to develop platform capabilities.
• Set technical standards and architectural guidelines.
• Operate production infrastructure, resolve issues, and enhance system reliability and resilience.
• Report to the Engineering Manager.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience as a high-achieving individual contributor, focusing on building and maintaining production backend systems.
• Profound knowledge of Ruby on Rails with a solid grasp of both application and data layers, along with practical experience in developing and sustaining core backend services.
• Strong relational database expertise, including data modeling and query optimization: analyzing query plans, resolving slow queries and N+1 issues, and correctly implementing indexing.
• Experience in developing and managing platform-level functionalities such as authentication/RBAC, job processing and queues, CI/CD, deployments, integrations, and other shared services that empower engineering teams to operate independently.
• Capability to work across both application and infrastructure layers.
• Demonstrated experience in managing major Rails upgrades, significant database migrations, zero-downtime schema changes, large-scale data backfills, dependency upgrades, and security remediation.
• Proven track record of keeping a production codebase up-to-date with dependency and package upgrades.
• Strong systems thinking and technical judgment.
• A builder mindset with a focus on execution, ownership, and practical problem-solving.
• Excellent collaboration skills, comfortable working alongside engineering, product, and operations teams.
• Experience with AWS and Terraform is desirable but not mandatory.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
