Senior Planning & Consents Project Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee planning and consenting work-streams from initial feasibility and site selection to determination, pre-construction, and FID.

• Formulate appropriate planning and consenting strategies for significant energy and infrastructure initiatives.

• Create and manage consenting schedules, budgets, governance structures, and execution plans.

• Facilitate collaboration among environmental, engineering, land, legal, stakeholder engagement, and commercial experts.

• Supervise planning consultants, legal advisors, and other specialized vendors.

• Determine the necessary consents, licenses, permissions, and approvals.

• Develop and sustain consent registers, responsibility matrices, risk logs, and decision records.

• Recognize and mitigate planning risks, program dependencies, critical connections, and potential obstacles to consent.

• Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of planning and consent applications.

• Assist with pre-application engagement, consultation, examination, and determination processes.

• Manage responses to information requests, representations, and examination inquiries.

• Coordinate the fulfillment of planning conditions, requirements, and other consent obligations.

• Interact with planning authorities, examining bodies, statutory consultees, government departments, and regulators.

• Offer advice and recommendations to clients, project directors, and governance forums.

• Report on program status, costs, risks, progress, and key decisions.

• Ensure alignment of planning and consenting activities with engineering design, land strategy, environmental assessments, and commercial goals.

• Aid in securing investment approvals, conducting due diligence, and preparing projects for FID.

• Contribute to enhancing the consultancy’s planning and consenting expertise.

• Foster trusted client relationships and identify avenues for additional support.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing planning or consenting workstreams for large infrastructure, energy, or complex development projects.

• Familiarity with supporting projects from concept through consent and on to FID.

• Understanding of UK planning and infrastructure consenting procedures.

• Experience in supporting nationally significant or major infrastructure ventures.

• Knowledge of various consenting frameworks, such as Development Consent Orders, Developments of National Significance, Section 36 applications, Town and Country Planning Act applications, Transport and Works Act Orders, and marine licensing.

• Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and technical contributions.

• Capability to develop and oversee consenting strategies, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.

• Proven experience in managing planning applications, consent submissions, or examination processes.

• Comprehension of the interactions between planning, environmental assessments, engineering design, land, and stakeholder engagement.

• Experience engaging with planning authorities, statutory consultees, regulators, or other public entities.

• Ability to identify risks, dependencies, and critical path elements.

• Confidence in managing external consultants and specialized suppliers.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to convey complex information and recommendations to senior decision-makers.

• Confidence in working within a client-facing consultancy context.

• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and work independently within a remote team setting.

• Must possess full working rights in the UK at the time of application.

• Current UK residency is required; relocation or visa support is not available.
