This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Oversee the comprehensive weekly payroll process for multiple Australian entities and Employment Hero payroll files, catering to a workforce of around 600–700 employees, which includes salaried, hourly, and casual staff.
• Assess and authorize timesheets, leave requests, allowances, penalties, overtime, deductions, terminations, and payroll adjustments to guarantee payroll accuracy.
• Analyze and implement Australian Modern Awards while ensuring adherence to Fair Work regulations, superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, workers compensation, portable long service leave, and other legal obligations across various states and territories.
• Keep track of legislative and award modifications, evaluate their impact on the business, and enact necessary updates to payroll processes, systems, or compliance measures.
• Conduct payroll reconciliations, which include leave balances, payroll liabilities, payroll tax, superannuation, and associated control accounts.
• Prepare, examine, and modify payroll journals, applying established double-entry accounting principles.
• Investigate and resolve intricate payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and compliance issues.
• Maintain payroll controls, documented procedures, audit trails, and precise employee records.
• Generate payroll reports, analysis, and insights for senior leadership, including addressing payroll-related issues at the executive and board levels.
• Supervise, mentor, and review the Payroll Officer's work, ensuring quality results, proper delegation, and segregation of duties.
• Identify and implement enhancements to improve payroll accuracy, controls, workflows, and system utilization.
• Assist with payroll system upgrades, future implementations, business expansion, and changes in workforce structure.
• Execute other responsibilities as required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, Human Resources, or a related field.
• A minimum of seven years of experience in Australian payroll, including significant experience managing complex and high-volume payrolls.
• Proven experience in leading or independently managing an end-to-end Australian payroll function across multiple entities or payroll files.
• Extensive knowledge of Australian payroll laws, Fair Work obligations, superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, and workers compensation requirements.
• Strong practical experience in interpreting Australian Modern Awards, particularly in sectors such as hospitality, leisure, fitness, events, beauty, or other casualized workforces.
• Demonstrated ability to track legislative changes and convert them into compliant payroll processes and controls.
• Strong payroll accounting skills, including reconciliations, payroll journals, and the fundamentals of double-entry accounting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, encompassing complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, and reconciliation of large datasets.
• Familiarity with Employment Hero Payroll is highly valued. Experience with a comparable Australian payroll system is essential.
• Proven track record in processing weekly payroll for several hundred employees, including casual, hourly, and salaried staff.
• Strong leadership and delegation skills, with experience in supporting or overseeing payroll team members.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage senior executives and board-level stakeholders.
• Outstanding attention to detail, judgment, confidentiality, and accountability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Work setup – Remote work; Dayshift - 0700 AM- 0400 PM PHT (adjustments will be made for daylight saving time)
