This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver expert legal assistance to attorneys within the Department of Legal Affairs across various practice areas.

• Coordinate, oversee, and finalize legal support tasks to facilitate Providence St. Joseph Health operations.

• Collaborate with attorneys to manage legal issues, exercising independent judgment to recommend actions and ensure resolution.

• Supervise and manage projects and legal matters, including transactions, governance, investigations, and litigation.

• Assist with the intake of legal services, triage, matter creation, tracking, management, and prioritization using ServiceNow.

• Request and organize documents and information from business partners.

• Identify and clarify issues for attorney review and legal counsel.

• Review legal invoices as needed.

• Work alongside outside counsel and engage with internal and external clients, vendors, and business associates.

• Utilize ServiceNow, Legal Tracker, iManage, and document management systems for managing matters, filing, and reporting.

• Create materials for meetings and presentations; write, edit, and proofread correspondence, memos, and presentations.

• Support the onboarding and training of new team members.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist in developing practice tools, forms, policies, and model documents.

• Draft and review contracts, physician/provider agreements, clinical education and research agreements, supply chain agreements, NDAs, letters of intent, Business Associate Agreements, and other legal documents.

• Lead or participate in document review and perform legal research.

• Maintain and update DLA website content and gather information for the Providence division and local areas.

• Address healthcare operations issues relating to intellectual property, regulatory matters, contracting, medical staff, pre-litigation disputes, investigations, litigation, and regulatory filings.

• Coordinate requests for conflict waivers and Medical Staff matters.

• Stay informed about and explain federal and state healthcare laws, such as Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Medicare and Medicaid billing regulations, HIPAA-HITECH, and EMTALA.


⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's Degree in an ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Program, or a certificate from a paralegal program at an accredited institution, or a degree from an accredited institution with at least 24 semester units in law-related courses.

• At least 5 years of paralegal experience in a pertinent practice area with an in-house legal team, or equivalent experience in a law practice setting.

• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience performing substantive legal work for multiple attorneys in a relevant practice area.

• Ability to uphold strict confidentiality, trustworthiness, and integrity.

• Understanding of ABA Model Rule 5.3 and the prevention of unauthorized practice of law.

• Proficient in independently utilizing ServiceNow, Legal Tracker, iManage, and document management systems.

• Demonstrable working knowledge of Office 365.

• Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and analytical abilities.

• Capability to organize multiple projects, manage schedules, and adapt to shifting priorities.

• Ability to work autonomously, manage time efficiently, and take initiative.

• Proficient in navigating a complex business environment.

• Capacity to identify and resolve problems and conflicts through effective communication.

• Ability to articulate laws, legal concepts, and tools to diverse audiences.

• Skill in identifying legal risks and appropriately escalating issues.

• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, or Legal Studies.

• Preferred: Notary Public certification upon hire.

• Preferred: 2 years of experience in the healthcare industry with large integrated health systems.
