
Senior Officer, Outreach – Tribal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Engage in outreach that is culturally relevant, establish feedback mechanisms, and assist in project development within Native American communities throughout the United States.
• Foster and sustain respectful, trust-based relationships with Tribal Nations, Tribal councils, and community leaders to promote collaboration and mutual understanding.
• Offer early-stage technical support by disseminating information about Climate United financing options and linking projects to additional funding resources such as philanthropic contributions for Tribal communities.
• Assist the Investment team by providing insights related to the design of financial products aimed specifically at addressing the needs of Tribal communities.
• Formulate and execute strategies to ensure outreach initiatives are culturally sensitive and align with the traditions, values, and governance frameworks of various Tribal communities.
• Investigate best practices in Tribal engagement and communicate any updates regarding regulations, norms, and opportunities to the wider Climate United team.
• Recognize and develop strategic partnerships with Tribal organizations, nonprofits, and governmental bodies to bolster outreach efforts and elevate Climate United's presence in Native communities.
• Perform thorough needs assessments to comprehend the distinct challenges and opportunities within Tribal communities concerning clean energy adoption, and customize outreach strategies accordingly.
• Create and implement systems for monitoring outreach activities and outcomes in Tribal communities. Analyze data to evaluate the success of outreach strategies and provide data-driven recommendations for enhancements.
• Collaborate with Tribal governments to navigate the federal, state, and Tribal laws and regulations pertinent to energy projects, ensuring adherence and respect for Tribal sovereignty.
• Develop and pilot creative outreach programs designed to meet the unique needs of Native communities, integrating feedback from community stakeholders and adjusting strategies as needed.
• Coordinate and lead community meetings, listening sessions, and educational workshops in Tribal communities to provide insights on clean energy technologies and collect feedback on Climate United's initiatives.
• Over 5 years of experience in community organizing, lending, economic or environmental justice, or a similar field, particularly within Native American communities.
• Profound understanding of Tribal governance structures, sovereignty concerns, and the historical and cultural backgrounds of Native American communities.
• Outstanding public speaking and presentation abilities, with experience addressing diverse audiences including Tribal councils, community members, government officials, and industry stakeholders.
• Strong strategic planning and organizational capabilities, with experience in formulating long-term outreach strategies that align with overarching organizational objectives.
• Proven cultural competence and experience working with diverse populations, especially within Native, low-income, and rural communities.
• Familiarity with navigating federal, state, and Tribal regulatory environments related to energy projects.
• Committed to the mission and activities of Climate United, Calvert Impact, and our dedication to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Possesses a well-rounded professional skill set and is comfortable in an entrepreneurial, flat working atmosphere.
• Maintains a customer service orientation (respectful, responsive) in all aspects of work, including interactions with internal and external individuals and partners.
• Self-motivated and capable of managing large and complex projects and programs from inception to completion in collaboration with a broader team.
• Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, with a systems-oriented mindset.
• Displays intellectual curiosity, a good sense of humor, high integrity, and a team-oriented approach (“We” vs “I” mentality).
• An effective and respectful communicator and listener, both verbally and in writing, with strong proficiency in English (fluency in one or more Native languages is an advantage, but not mandatory).
• Exhibits a positive, “can-do” attitude focused on executing solutions.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%, including participation in various conferences and engagements with Tribal and local communities.
