Senior NPI Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and implement the NPI hardware reliability strategy, milestones, and phase-gate qualification plans from the initial development stage to production ramp-up.

• Collaborate with Hardware Engineering to evaluate architecture, design modifications, and BOMs for electrical, mechanical, thermal, and environmental risks.

• Develop and carry out accelerated life, stress, and environmental testing plans, which include thermal cycling, drop/vibration tests, and HALT/ALT assessments.

• Examine test data and trends to ensure product readiness aligns with reliability targets prior to commercial launch.

• Guide root-cause failure investigations throughout NPI testing, pilot builds, and early production using 8D, FMEA, FTA, DOE, and Weibull techniques.

• Work alongside Design, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, and contract manufacturers to implement, validate, and monitor corrective actions.

• Incorporate field and post-mortem insights into early NPI cycles to mitigate recurring failure modes.

• Evaluate supplier and manufacturing reliability risks during EVT, DVT, and PVT builds.

• Conduct audits of critical processes, materials, and component qualifications.

• Establish quality controls, testing coverage, and containment protocols for essential hardware components and sub-assemblies.

• Define NPI reliability metrics, statistical models, and dashboards for executive leadership review.

• Act as the Technical Operations subject matter expert in hardware reliability.

• Develop, standardize, and scale the company’s NPI Hardware Reliability framework across multiple hardware platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Over 5 years of experience in hardware reliability, product quality, NPI, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.

• Proficient in reliability qualification and validation of complex electronic hardware.

• Strong comprehension of hardware failure mechanisms and principles of reliability engineering.

• Experience working with contract manufacturers and external suppliers.

• Familiarity with NPI processes and the production ramp-up of intricate electronic products.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Skilled in structured root-cause and failure-analysis methodologies.

• Capability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, BOMs, specifications, and manufacturing documents.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
