This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Conduct and oversee structural and naval architectural assessments for ship systems, foundations, and modifications.
• Perform DDAM shock analyses, as well as static and dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and load path evaluations.
• Create and validate shock-qualified designs for equipment and systems aboard ships.
• Ensure adherence to NAVSEA design standards, classification society regulations (ABS), and contractual obligations.
• Develop and modify 3D ship models utilizing software tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, ShipConstructor, or similar applications.
• Convert legacy drawings and incomplete data into precise, buildable 3D models.
• Assist in aligning design with production, ensuring that models accurately represent actual installation conditions.
• Detect clashes, interferences, and constructability challenges at an early stage.
• Create, review, and annotate Technical Design Packages (TDPs) including: Drawings, Calculations, Reports, and Installation details.
• Confirm the technical accuracy and shipboard applicability of engineering products.
• Assist with Engineering Change Documents (ECNs/ECPs) and configuration management.
• Perform ship checks, inspections, and onboard validation of systems and structures.
• Collaborate directly with production teams to: Address installation challenges, Resolve non-compliance issues, and Minimize rework and delays.
• Serve as the liaison among engineering, production, and program stakeholders.
• Lead or assist with DDAM shock analyses for mission-critical systems.
• Assess shock mitigation tactics, isolation systems, and structural enhancements.
• Ensure that designs comply with shock, vibration, and survivability standards.
• Aid in resolving shock trial deficiencies and issues of non-compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Facilitate cross-functional coordination with: Shipyards, Program offices, Classification societies, and Government stakeholders.
• Engage in technical reviews, design assessments, and risk evaluations.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from a recognized and accredited naval architecture program (Mechanical Engineering degrees are not applicable for this position).
• Over 10 years of experience in naval and/or commercial shipbuilding sectors.
• Proven experience in supporting NAVSEA, MSC, or significant U.S. shipyards.
• Solid understanding of ship structures, systems integration, and vessel design execution.
• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory; an Active Secret Clearance is preferred.
