This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Take charge of the visual and interaction design for essential mobile game screens.
• Design user interfaces that prioritize user experience, ensuring they are easily comprehensible for casual players with a strong hierarchy, clear calls to action, and minimal friction.
• Develop high-quality mobile layouts that are compatible with a diverse array of screen sizes, aspect ratios, and device performance levels.
• Achieve a balance between usability, visual appeal, brand identity, and monetization objectives without compromising the game's quality or overwhelming players.
• Create rewarding moments, upgrade experiences, purchase flows, and progression feedback that are satisfying, straightforward, and effective from a commercial standpoint.
• Grasp how UI decisions influence player behavior, including aspects like button placement, reward framing, urgency, scarcity, value perception, and habit formation.
• Leverage data, A/B test outcomes, player feedback, and competitive analysis to enhance designs over time.
• Establish and uphold scalable UI systems, components, layouts, iconography, and style guides.
• Produce production-ready mockups, specifications, flows, prototypes, and handoff documents for engineering and art teams.
• Ensure that the final in-game UI aligns with the expected quality standards through implementation review, feedback, and iterative improvements.
• Collaborate with motion designers or technical artists to define engaging transitions, button feedback, reward reveals, pack openings, upgrade animations, and live operations presentations.
• Develop agent-driven workflows that merge human design intuition with AI-supported output.
• Utilize generative AI tools to expedite ideation, visual exploration, UI variations, icon concepts, mood boards, production assistance, and competitive analysis.
• Quickly generate multiple visual directions and refine them based on team feedback, playtests, and product objectives.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional UI design experience in the gaming industry.
• At least 3 years of experience specifically designing for mobile free-to-play games.
• Proven track record with at least one released mobile game in a senior, lead, or significant ownership role.
• A strong portfolio showcasing genuine mobile game UI work, distinct from marketing art or web/app design.
• Comprehensive understanding of casual mobile UI patterns, monetization strategies, progression systems, and live operations design.
• Exceptional visual design abilities encompassing layout, typography, color, hierarchy, iconography, composition, and overall polish.
• Proficient in Figma, including components, variants, libraries, and design systems.
• Experience designing for Unity-based mobile games or comparable game engines.
• Capability to create clear flows, wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready screen specifications.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to justify design choices using player insights, product considerations, and business rationale.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, metrics-driven production setting.
