This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design and enhance the mobile products and platform architecture for Thunderbird.
• Elevate scalability, performance, reliability, and overall user experience.
• Acquire an in-depth understanding of the codebase and architecture to implement changes throughout the entire stack.
• Uphold debugging and testing standards across unit, integration, and automated testing.
• Evaluate code and provide guidance on improvements to architecture, testing, and development best practices.
• Tackle intricate issues related to performance, security, and cross-platform integration.
• Monitor the health of applications and proactively address issues before they escalate.
• Document technical decisions, system architecture, and team workflows.
• Take ownership of assigned projects from investigation and planning through development, validation, and delivery.
• Collaborate across functions with mobile engineers, product management, UX, open-source contributors, and the wider Mozilla ecosystem.
• Ensure mobile development adheres to accessibility, security, and privacy standards.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2+ years in a Senior Software Engineer position.
• 3+ years of professional experience in mobile application development.
• Strong proficiency with Swift, SwiftUI, and iOS frameworks.
• Extensive knowledge of iOS architecture, design patterns, and performance optimization techniques.
• Proven experience in delivering and maintaining complex, scalable, and reliable software solutions.
• Experience in addressing technical debt and refactoring large or complex codebases.
• Solid understanding of mobile security, including encryption, secure storage, app signing, and vulnerability remediation.
• Familiarity with communication and email protocols such as RSS, IMAP, POP, or Matrix.
• Knowledge of IETF standards for CalDav or CardDav.
• Advanced skills in Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong abilities in debugging, testing, and problem-solving.
• Capacity to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate across teams.
• Exceptional async written communication skills; comfortable collaborating with a geographically distributed team.
• Ability to learn, assess, and responsibly implement emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
