Senior Mobile Engineer, iOS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance Thunderbird’s mobile products and platform architecture.

• Optimize scalability, performance, reliability, and overall user experience.

• Gain an in-depth understanding of the codebase and architecture to confidently implement changes across the entire stack.

• Uphold strong debugging and testing practices across unit, integration, and automated testing.

• Evaluate code and provide guidance for improvements in architecture, testing, and development best practices.

• Proactively address complex issues related to performance, security, and cross-platform integration.

• Monitor application health and resolve issues before they escalate.

• Document technical decisions, system architecture, and team workflows.

• Take ownership of assigned projects, working collaboratively across functions from investigation and planning through development, validation, and delivery.

• Ensure mobile development adheres to accessibility, security, and privacy standards.

• Partner with mobile engineers, product management, UX, open-source contributors, and the broader Mozilla ecosystem to enhance Thunderbird’s iOS experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years in a Senior Software Engineer position.

• 3+ years of professional experience in mobile application development.

• Extensive experience with Swift, SwiftUI, and iOS frameworks.

• Profound knowledge of iOS architecture, design patterns, and performance optimization.

• Proven experience in delivering and maintaining complex, scalable, and reliable software.

• Skilled in addressing technical debt and refactoring large or intricate codebases.

• In-depth knowledge of mobile security, encompassing encryption, secure storage, app signing, and vulnerability remediation.

• Familiarity with communication and email protocols such as RSS, IMAP, POP, or Matrix.

• Understanding of IETF standards for CalDav or CardDav.

• Advanced proficiency with Git and collaborative development practices.

• Excellent debugging, testing, and problem-solving abilities.

• Capacity to work autonomously, take initiative, and collaborate across teams.

• Exceptional asynchronous written communication skills; comfortable working with a geographically dispersed team.

• Willingness to learn, assess, and responsibly utilize emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to enhance work processes.

• Applicants must reside in Canada and possess permanent work authorization; visa sponsorship is not available.
