This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Become a part of the Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team as a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
• Perform comprehensive thermal analysis on solid rocket motor components.
• Utilize engineering methodologies to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test mechanically functioning equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Collaborate with engineers and other staff to implement operational procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical insights.
• Research and evaluate customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other relevant data.
• Assess design feasibility, cost implications, and maintenance requirements.
• Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure compliance with engineering and performance standards.
• Investigate equipment failures and diagnose operational issues.
• Provide recommendations to maintenance teams.
• Work alongside cross-disciplinary teams.
• Engage with customers directly.
• Promote technical excellence.
• Potentially lead projects or project phases and serve as a resource for less experienced team members.
• Associate's Degree with 5-7 years of relevant experience.
• A degree in engineering is mandatory.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong oral and written communication abilities.
• Capability to meet deadlines effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Analytical thinking proficiency.
• Knowledge in applied mechanics.
• Experience in design engineering.
• Skills in design optimization.
• Familiarity with design reviews.
• Expertise in mechanical engineering.
• Prototyping experience.
• Knowledge of requirements engineering/analysis.
• Proficiency in CAD software.
• Experience with computer-aided engineering (CAE) software.
• Strong preference for candidates with thermal ablative analysis experience.
• Ability to remain stationary at a desk and/or computer for prolonged periods.
• Regular movement within GD-OTS facilities.
