
Senior Mechanical Engineer – Federal Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Lead or support HVAC and plumbing system design for Department of Defense (DoD) and mission-critical facility projects.
• Provide construction administration services, which include reviewing shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and evaluating contractor-submitted change orders.
• Collaborate with senior team members to assess alternative design methodologies.
• Conduct site and field visits to evaluate existing conditions and the status of equipment.
• Organize and strategize project plans to ensure adherence to quality controls and project specifications while remaining within budget.
• Aid in the preparation of proposals and deliver presentations to clients.
• Mentor junior personnel within the Mechanical Department.
• Review and revise specifications as necessary.
• Engage and collaborate with clients and subcontractors effectively.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Over 6 years of experience in mechanical design for HVAC and plumbing systems or a demonstrated equivalent in experience and/or education.
• U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to federal contract and security stipulations.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to convey design concepts to clients.
• Strong time management, work ethic, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficient in building load calculations and energy modeling.
• Expertise in plumbing system design, including sanitary, storm, and water distribution systems.
• Experience in energy modeling is a plus.
• Cost estimating experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with Design-Build and alternate delivery methods is a plus.
• Experience in instrumentation and controls design is a plus.
• Additional industry certifications such as LEED AP, CxA, or CEM are advantageous.
• Prior federal experience with NAVFAC, USACE, VAMC, DoD, or USAF is preferred.
