This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish and lead the foundational tax function at Figure, creating repeatable and scalable processes across all corporate tax areas.
• Oversee and manage the preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local corporate tax returns in collaboration with external tax advisors.
• Direct the review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions (ASC 740), ensuring precise documentation and financial statement disclosures.
• Assess and analyze the tax implications of new business lines, blockchain-native loan products, and digital asset features (such as tokenized funds or stablecoins).
• Collaborate across various functions with Product, Legal, and Finance teams to proactively integrate tax planning into company strategies and operational designs.
• Monitor and interpret changes in domestic tax laws, especially IRS regulations concerning digital assets, crypto transactions, and financial technology.
• Lead and coordinate all responses to federal and state tax audits, inquiries, and notifications.
• Design and implement internal tax controls and workflows that meet rigorous public company audit and SOX compliance standards.
• Optimize and manage the company's intercompany agreements and sales/use tax responsibilities.
• Supervise the annual R&D tax credit study to ensure accurate and timely completion.
• Review nexus positions across all active states to ensure that ongoing state tax compliance obligations are identified and addressed.
• Direct intercompany transfer pricing studies in collaboration with external advisors, ensuring that documentation is up-to-date, defensible, and aligned with the company’s entity structure.
• Assume responsibility for all year-end information reporting obligations (including Forms 1099, 1098, and other customer-facing tax statements), working with Operations and Product to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Over 7 years of progressive corporate tax experience, combining Big 4 or top-tier public accounting with high-growth corporate tax settings.
• Active CPA license is preferred.
• Extensive technical knowledge of ASC 740, US GAAP financial reporting, and corporate federal/state tax compliance.
• Strong technical interest or direct experience in fintech, debt/lending instruments, digital assets, or blockchain-based financial products.
• Demonstrated ability to work with large, complex financial datasets and utilize technology to automate workflows.
• A "high-ownership" mindset with a proven track record of driving projects from conception to completion as a self-starter.
• Exceptional communication and translation skills—the capability to articulate complex tax risks and concepts clearly to non-tax stakeholders, leadership, and auditors.
• Compliance with all company security policies and data handling procedures.
