This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Assist in implementing a strategic public policy engagement plan aimed at advancing business objectives at state, provincial, and local levels across eastern North America.
• Conduct research, identify, and monitor current and emerging policy issues across various regions, collaborating with internal team members to ascertain the company’s stance, priorities, and potential risks.
• Formulate strategies to navigate and influence policy objectives; engage with state, provincial, and local governments to promote the company’s public policy interests.
• Work in conjunction with Vantage’s New Site Development, Engineering, Legal, Tax, Construction, and Operations Finance teams on key matters and workstreams, establishing a routine for regular briefings.
• Participate in pre-development activities by researching policy drivers in new markets, understanding and seeking local tax incentives and funding programs for data center development, and addressing permit and zoning needs as required.
• Oversee contract lobbyists, association memberships, and coalition partnerships.
• Prepare positioning statements/documents; create presentations and talking points for meetings, as well as briefings for executives and key internal stakeholders.
• Attend local meetings to provide testimony/comments on behalf of Vantage.
• Engage with various chambers, associations, and coalitions as an advocate for the data center industry.
• Collaborate with the marketing team to develop messaging, positioning, collateral, and public relations materials.
• Advocate for Vantage’s commitment to sustainability, diversity, and inclusivity; engage with the community to support Vantage’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 5-7 years of direct experience in government relations, economic development, or community engagement in Eastern North America.
• Proven experience in understanding business needs and representing those interests to government officials.
• Desired skills include creative and critical thinking, with the ability to comprehend complex issues and formulate clear and effective action plans to address them.
• Experience in policies related to energy, artificial intelligence, taxes, sustainability, and infrastructure development.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with both internal and external audiences, including senior government officials and company executives.
• A collaborative teammate comfortable working in a matrixed organization to enhance business value creation is highly preferred.
• Preferably experienced in managing contract lobbyists and serving as an internal lobbyist for a private corporation.
• Advanced political acumen and the capability to connect with customers from diverse backgrounds.
• Must be adept at managing multiple priorities in the face of changing timelines and objectives.
• Travel requirements are expected to be up to 20%, with possible increases as the business develops.
