This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Lead the development and ongoing enhancement of mechanical and plumbing engineering standards, specifications, and design guidelines for data center initiatives.
• Propel innovation and standardization efforts by assessing new technologies, materials, and vendor solutions to boost performance, minimize costs, and improve scalability.
• Supervise the technical review and approval of equipment submissions, ensuring adherence to company standards and coordination among different disciplines.
• Collaborate with regional design and execution teams to document lessons learned, assess deviations from the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), and integrate enhancements into upcoming designs.
• Develop and standardize sequences of operations (SOOs) for mechanical and plumbing systems in collaboration with controls and automation teams.
• Spearhead value engineering initiatives, offering recommendations that balance cost, constructability, reliability, and long-term operational performance.
• Design and implement tools, templates, and processes that enhance engineering consistency, efficiency, and quality across various projects.
• Establish and standardize commissioning requirements and documentation to facilitate successful system startup and turnover.
• Work closely with Operations teams to ensure that designs promote maintainability, reliability, and lifecycle performance.
• Contribute to the company's sustainability objectives by optimizing mechanical and plumbing system designs for efficiency and resource utilization.
• Provide technical oversight and guidance on system layouts, infrastructure planning, and integration within complex data center environments.
• Mentor and support engineers, fostering best practices, technical consistency, and professional growth within the team.
• Facilitate cross-functional coordination with architecture, electrical, procurement, construction, and operations stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Carry out additional duties as necessary to support project and organizational goals.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline) from an accredited institution; a PE license is preferred.
• 8–12+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design and delivery for data centers, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial/commercial projects.
• Proven expertise in mechanical and plumbing systems, including piping, water distribution, drainage, and supporting infrastructure in complex facilities.
• Established ability to lead technical initiatives, develop engineering standards, and mentor or guide engineering teams.
• Experience in North American and/or European construction environments.
• Strong grasp of building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient with engineering and design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit/BIM) and capable of reviewing and interpreting construction documents and models.
• Experience in coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders, including design consultants, contractors, procurement, and operations teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions in a fast-paced setting.
