This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +6 more states.
• Lead a team of 6–10 engineers responsible for developing Docker's cross-platform runtime for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
• Take ownership of the technical direction and roadmap.
• Collaborate closely with product management to ensure alignment of the team with business and product objectives.
• Guarantee predictable delivery and operational excellence for the components produced by the team.
• Recruit and retain exceptional systems engineering talent.
• Maintain a high standard for engineering quality.
• Facilitate effective communication across teams and provide status updates for critical projects.
• Over 5 years of experience managing high-performing engineering teams.
• More than 5 years of hands-on experience in systems programming (including hypervisors, container runtimes, OS internals, kernel development, or similar low-level infrastructure).
• At least 8 years of professional, hands-on software engineering experience in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Comprehensive understanding of virtualization concepts: VMMs, hypervisors, and hardware-assisted virtualization.
• Experience with container runtimes (such as OCI, containerd, runc) or similar low-level infrastructure.
• Cross-platform systems experience in two or more of the following: Windows, macOS, Linux.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and comfortably in a remote setting across different time zones.
